A group of Higanbana, or death flowers as I explained a few days ago. They usually grow in patches like this and you find them everywhere. This particular patch was at a Shinto shrine.

This is Higanbana (彼岸花), also known as a Spider Lily, or (as I like to call it) death flower. The bloom around the autumn equinox. In addition to equinox, higan also refers to the other shore of the Sanzu River. The Sanzu River is the Japanese version of the River Styx, or in other words the afterlife. They grow on the opposite shore and guide spirits into the next life. It’s also said when two people part for the final time, higanbana will bloom in their path as they depart from one another.

I’ve posted photos of these mummy trees before. I still have no idea why they wrap these trees up like this. Well, in this case at east, this mummy tree doesn’t appear all that healthy.

This is from towards the end of the cherry blossom viewing season. Just look at that ground. Maybe it’s not quite thick enough to be a carpet, but there are quite a lot of fallen petals there.

I’ve shown you guys many shots of Sakura Fubuki, when the cherry blossom petals rain down like a blizzard. So what happens to the petals after they fall off?

A Cherry Blossom Shower for you. This is the best part of the blossoms, when they rain down like snow, and I was sure to get several shots of it this year. Go look at some of the others.
