Daily HDR Photo — Don’t Piss Off the Lion-Dog
Today’s photo is another view of a Komainu, a “Korean Dog”, originally a lion.

I think I’ve mentioned it before, but if not, my buddy Jun has a great write up on where the komainu comes from. Basically the lion is the Buddha, but there was a bit of confusion when Buddhism came over from Korea and so these guardians ended up as dogs instead of lions.
Oh well, dog or lion, pretty scary face, huh? If you look closely, you can see his mouth was once painted red and some of the paint is still there.
