Daily HDR Photo — Leaving Itsukushima
Today’s photo is a shot at the front of Itsukushima Shrine.
About
More shots from Miyajima.
The tide was just beginning to come in when I left in the evening. I was disappointed that it was out all day so I never got to see the floating on water effect of the shrine. Oh well — a good excuse to visit again.
Once cool thing about when the tide is out is that you can walk all over the area normally underwater, including all the way out to the giant torii gate where it is good luck to stick coins in the cracks in the torii.
Nice place, overall. Add it to your list of places to visit when in Japan. It’s a short trip from Hiroshima so most tourists hit them both on the same trip.

Hi Dave. You went to Hiroshima and Miyajima… I visited both in 2008 for the first time. I was shocked when I an old man smacked one of deer at its back with a Houki or something. It was really hard smackings. I think it was becuase the deers were tying to approach the tourists and begging some foods. But I thought it was not good to treat the animals like that anyway.… Where else did you go? Taeko
I was there in 2008 too. I enjoyed the deer — they were very friendly.
I just went to Hiroshima and Miyajima on this trip. I didn’t have enough money to go anywhere else!
