Daily HDR Photo — Rice Field Sunset
Today’s photo is a nice sunset taken from some rice fields. The rice is only a few weeks planted, so still plenty of water visible in the paddies to give us a nice reflection.
Rice has always been the most common crop in Japan. The volcanic activity of the island makes the soil very acidic which makes growing rice ideal.
These days, however, the popularity and consumption of rice is decreasing rapidly as more and more people turn to bread and other Western foods. Not only that, but the rice fields themselves are disappearing. Young people don’t want to be farmers, so no one is replacing the aging ones. No one is quite sure what is to come of this situation.
If you look closely, you can see some school kids hanging out in the photo. I suppose a patch of rice fields is as good a place as any to avoid adults and get some privacy.
What do you think? Let me know in the comments.
Remember, I offer the full-size version of this. Zoom in and let it fill your screen. I find HDR works best when the photo is too big for you to take completely in, so your eyes have to wander around. Try it.

I just want to say the shot you took of the rice field is amazing! I stared at it for atleast 30 mins. Then I scrolled down and saw more of your work. Definitely, eye candy!
Thanks, Ceville! I’m glad you enjoyed it ^^
Feel free to save it and use it for your desktop wallpaper — you can grab the full resolution size at flickr.
Today’s photos are beautiful. Did you wait for the sunset to take this photo (the first one)? I sometimes come across a beautiful view in my neighborhood, but I always just enjoy watching for a while. And forget about taking it into a picture even I have a camera with me.
Yeah, I waited for the sunset. Or rather, I timed my walk so I would arrive at the rice patties just as the sun started going down.
I used to always forget to take photos. It’s easy to just relax and enjoy a place. I think my iPhone camera got me in better habits of always taking a photo, even if only a small snapshot.
Awesome pics…I took some similar shots of sunset on a rice field a couple of weeks ago (-:

Yours are pretty good. I especially like the 10th one with the red sky. Very nice.
