Bar with Old Japanese Beer Ads

Daily HDR Photo — Bar with Old Japanese Beer Ads

Today’s photo is a cool building I spotted the other day while in Nagoya. Ok, it’s not that cool, but I loved the old beer ads they have above the entrance.

Bar with Old Beer Ads

The old beer ads are from the Showa Era, which is what we call the period from 1926 to 1989 when Hirohito, whom we now call Showa, was the Emperor. The Showa period is looked at by most Japanese the same way that we look at the 50s in the States, as this kind of Golden Age when everything was perfect.

Of course we know it wasn’t so perfect, but that doesn’t stop older Japanese from sighing and muttering, “Ah..It was so much better in Showa”.
