Introducing a new project.....

The last few weeks I’ve been planning and working on a new project, a link blog to cover everything Japan. It will be different from Japandave.com. This site is mostly for fun, to let friends and family back home (and anyone else who wanders in from google, which I know is actually a large group) know about some of the strange and interesting things that happen here in this land of the rising sun. The new site will be a collection of links pointing you to other stories about weird and interesting things. Don’t worry, I’ll still post here once a week or so, but I read many stories about Japan everyday so I thought I could start sharing them and my thoughts on them.

The new site is: nihonde.net . Let me know what you think. I have comments turned off there so you can leave comments here or email me with any.

Thank you for reading. If you enjoyed the post, please share it with your buddies on the web. A few options below. Thank you so much :)

Moon Rabbit!

What do you see when you look at the moon? Most of us in America and Western Europe would claim to spot the old man in the moon, or a face in other words. Some stories claim he is a thief, a criminal banished to the moon for some ancient crime. Some tales even claim it is the face of Cain himself.

Here in Japan, however, no one sees a face. Instead they see a rabbit pounding mochi, or rice cakes. 180px-Rabbit_in_the_moon_standing_by_pot

There is even a song about the Moon Rabbit. Go here for more info on that.

Here’s an animé song that makes reference to the rabbit on the moon:

Election is over

There was a national election not too long ago and it proved to a dandy. The LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) which has been in power almost uninterrupted since it was founded in 1955 was soundly defeated by the DPJ (Democratic Party of Japan) making way for a new prime minister, Yukio Hatoyama (YOU-KEY-OH HA-TOE-YAH-MA).
