Since my writing on here is dying down, I’m going to start posting more pictures. Here’s one I recently took:

In the States it’s not all that common to find farms within city limits, at least not full size farms (at least not that I’m aware of), but here it’s common enough to find small sections of farm land enclosed by the city. I understand this normally comes about from stubborn farmers who refuse to sell their land even as the city springs up around them. I’m told that even in Tokyo you can find little pockets of farm land.
This photo comes from one of these farm pockets near my apartment. It’s a beautiful area. Normally relatively busy tho, as everyone seems to enjoy visiting it to walk around and enjoy. I managed to stop the foot traffic near me long enough to take this picture and got lucky that there was none in the distance.
The photo is my first attempt at hdr. HDR stands for high-dynamic range and it is a technique (or hack) that attempts to cram more dynamic range into photos, giving us an image that is more like what our eyes can actually see. Basically our eyes can see quite a large range of light and cameras can only capture about half that range. [1. Off the top of my head, we can see about 22 stops of light while a good camera (i.e. film) can only capture about 10 (7 or 8 for digital cameras)] hdr attempts to get around this limitation by combining multiple exposures into the same photo, so theoretically you can get your highlights, your shadows, and everything in between.
A common danger of hdr is it makes your colors look so good it makes you want to crank up the saturation to really enjoy them, giving the photo a little of an unnatural look. This pic has a bit of that, but oh well.
This is from my flickr gallery. If you want to see more, go there.
